Day 17 – Albany

Here we are at Albany. We have indulged ourselves a little and are staying at the Big 4 Caravan Park at Middleton Beach. At $43 per night, it’s by far our most expensive so far but it is perfectly located on the beach and I am listening to the sound of the waves breaking on the shore as I type this. We also have a concrete slab on which to park the van, a far cry from Caiguna. What luxury.

Ships waiting to enter the harbour.

Albany is another town where the mix of natural beauty and industrial activity is noteworthy.

A mountain of wood chips at the chip terminal, also the ship terminal.

The largest grain loading facility I have ever seen.

Meanwhile in the kitchen, the chores need to be done. We had a minor disaster today in that somebody nameless left the fridge unlocked when we stopped for a break en route this morning. The mess was very reminiscent of the time the fridge door fell off navigating the rough road at Innaminka.

Tomorrow we explore the local natural parks. We expect more spectacular scenery.

  1. Hi Michael & Trish, Hope you enjoy Albany, check out the history of the harbour which is on the walk around the edge near the entertainment centre. I could only think of our great uncles, Bryan & Thomas who would have left on the ships from Albany to WWII. There is a river in Margaret river, we stayed at the MR Beach resort on the coast and it can be seen on the way out to it. amazing lookout near there too. Enjoy! I will show Dad your blog tomorrow night when he is here for tea.Barb is staying with him while he has another cataract done on Tuesday. We had a great holiday and have a new respect for asia and will go back.
