A VERY SIGNIFICANT DAY

Happy Birthday Trish! The day started slowly with a Skype call to the family so they could sing Happy Birthday and to help Hannah and Nathan blow out the candles on the cake made by Jenny. Thanks Jenny. Please save us a slice.
We left the family to their birthday party at Royal Pines and went to a champagne birthday breakfast at June & Gino’s villa where the group sang happy birthday in Italian!
Thank you June and Gino for a lovely morning.
Tonight we are off to a beachside restaurant for a birthday dinner.
What a life?

Between parties, we spent the afternoon at Amalfi, a half hour’s ferry ride south of here. The waterfront aspect is incredible. Very steep like Cinque Terre except that, somehow, they have managed to put a road and a lot of houses on the side of the mountains as they dip into the sea.
Tomorrow we are off to Herculaneum, a smaller version of Pompeii, similarly affected by the same volcano. Should be very interesting.

Apart from the birthday celebrations, perhaps the highlight of the day for me was that I went for my first swim in the Mediterranean Sea and it was very nice. I’ll do it again, probably on the Isle of Capri when we go there on Wednesday. The only challenge is the rolling gravel rocks that one has to try and walk on to get in and out of the water. Very hard on tender feet.
