SATURDAY 10TH OCTOBER – DARWIN

Yes, we are in Darwin. We are actually here a day early but having done everything we wanted to do and seen everything we wanted to see in Kakadu we saw no reason not to come.

We are now in a suburban caravan park listening to the sound of the air conditioning unit operating in the van next door, a little different to all the interesting remote places we have stayed since leaving home. As we arrived in Darwin, we realized that the last traffic we encountered was in Toowoomba, exactly two weeks ago.

Our last venue in Kakadu was Mamukala Wetlands. We have seen a lot of wetlands and a lot of birds but nothing compares with the size of the area covered by water and the number of birds there. The picture above tries to tell the story. Every dark shape in the picture is a bird.

We will entertain ourselves here until Tuesday when we fly off to Biak to join the ship for the cruise back to here. I may have nothing of interest to report from Darwin but I am told that there is internet on the ship so hopefully I will have some interesting adventures to report from there.
