Hi everybody. It’s Monday morning and we slept very well? It seems incredible to think we were tired after 36 hours of eating, drinking, sleeping and watching movies but we were. I couldn’t get away with that at home!
Having arrived uneventfully complete with luggage at our accommodation near Malpensa Airport, we headed to town yesterday afternoon to see a little of Milan. Our visit was centred on the Duomo, the Cathedral which, so they say, is the world’s largest of its kind and third largest of any style in Europe, and the streets around it. Very impressive, particularly the view from the roof.
We managed to get only a little bit lost but gained an understanding of the nature of central Milan. We were surprised that the traffic appeared to be quite well behaved, no horns blaring and everybody obeying the rules, stopping at red lights and even allowing us to cross the road at pedestrian crossings. What was impressive was the tram/light rail system which was able to navigate the narrow streets without seeming to disrupt traffic. Admittedly it was Sunday afternoon but there were plenty of people about. Will that work on the Gold Coast?
Today we join the traffic flow, sitting on the wrong side of the car, changing gears with the wrong hand and driving on the wrong side of the road. How hard can it be?
Ciao
