WE COLLECT THE MOTORHOME

We’re here! Here is Lago di Balseno about 100 kms north of Rome. We are camped in a lakeside campground, two rows from the water.
Today was another clockwork day. We checked in at Milano for the flight to Rome with only a little confusion. Trish wasn’t on the flight but a person named Kyle Patricia was so she took Ms Patricia’s seat.
A man with our name on a sign was waiting at the arrivals gate and we had our first experience of Rome traffic, quite scary.
We ordered a four berth campervan so we would have a smaller one to navigate narrow Italian streets but something went wrong and we have the magnificent 6 berth 6 meter monster you see behind me. Very new and very smart but I have already managed to adjust the right hand side mirror by brushing the roadside vegetation.
Notwithstanding that our GPS gave us a bum steer and we saw some parts of Rome we were not intending to see, we successfully escaped and only drove on the left, that is wrong, side of the road once .
Our campground is between the town and the lake. After we arrived, we walked uptown and were surprised and delighted. The town doesn’t rate a mention in Lonely Planet but is easily as spectacularly quaint as many of the delightful historic towns we have seen in England and Europe. Very little English is spoken.
There is a festival on with lots of people in the narrow winding streets and we were treated to a daylight fireworks display. Not much to see but plenty of noise. The dogs went berserk.
Tomorrow we head for Siena and then on to Pisa.
We hope all is well at home.
Ciao.

  1. The other benefit of using a blog is that you can get comments from the peanut gallery!

So did the man with your name on a sign mean that Ms Kyle Patricia didn't need to drive through Rome? I bet that would have been a relief.

The weather looks fabulous and warm and I'm sure the behemoth you are driving will be very well worn in by the time you leave it behind.

All is well in this household, except I am not looking forward to four weeks with no grandma daycare, three weeks of which is school holidays...

    Enviously,

  2. Very good Dad.

Try not to bog the furniture van (again). If you do, I want photos please.

Has your ability to count to 10 in French come in handy in Italy yet?
