SUNDAY IN SWITZERLAND

Hi everyone. Yet another special day. After yesterday’s  gloomy overcast weather, today dawned as a clear sunny warm day. We headed off on what the tourism brochure calls a self guided tour. We started with a regular commuter train to Domodossola, about half an hour’s train ride north west of where we are on the shore of Lake Maggiore.
After spending about an hour in the enticingly quaint town, we got on the Centovalli-Vigezzo Railway. It climbs into Switzerland through spectacularly scenic snow covered mountains and deep valleys. We spent a fascinating hour and a half wandering the narrow streets of St. Maria Maggiore, yet another quaint town, before getting back on the train to descend into Switzerland to the town of Locarno at the northern end of the lake.

At Locarno we got on a ferry for an hour and a half cruise back to Italy and Baveno where we finished off the day with a pizza by the lake. What a life!
While there are some people around, it is certainly not crowded, a significant change from the Mediterranean coast.
We might spend another day here tomorrow before heading east.
