SUNDAY - CAPILANO AND GROUSE MOUNTAIN

Adventure day today, crossing suspension bridges, ziplining and mixing it with the bears.

We spent the day between Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and Grouse Mountain. The former is a suspension bridge and clifftop walk across/alongside a very deep gorge carved out by the Capilano River. The latter is a winter ski field cleverly converted to a summer activity area which you get to by ascending through the clouds by cable car. I am sure that, on a clear day, the views would be spectacular.

 That’s Trish on the zipline.

Here’s a bear we encountered in the forest.

Once at Grouse Mountain, you have options including a chairlift ride further up the mountain, a lift ride up the wind turbine tower to an observation deck at the top (unfortunately, all we could observe was cloud and there was no wind so the turbine blade was not turning), ziplining, a very interesting birds of prey display and, perhaps the highlight, an opportunity to get up close and personal with some bears.

On the way back to our accommodation, we resisted the temptation to have some free salsa lessons which were on offer.

Tomorrow we hope to master the public transport system. We have our day passes. Who knows where we might end up.

Guess what. When it came time to join the long queue to get on the cable car to come down the mountain, the clouds cleared and the sun came out!!
