Pretty quiet
day today. The photo above is of the Sea Princess which happened to be leaving
port as we passed by today. It is presumably a sister ship to the Island
Princess on which we will be sailing.
Glanville
Island was really interesting. It is an area under the Glanville Street bridge
which was dredged up out of False Creek and developed as an industrial area and,
having outlived its usefulness, was then abandoned and neglected for many
years. It’s old industrial buildings have been rejuvenated into a very popular
market, craft and shopping complex. One gets there by crossing False Creek on what, at home, we would call a party pontoon but here, they are used as ferrys.
China Town
and Gastown were worth a look but I wouldn’t hurry back. The most interesting
aspect of China Town was the shops, particularly the seafood shops, with various
types of live creatures in tanks waiting to be purchased. It was certainly
fresh seafood.
Gastown was
quite smart, in the same manner as Yaletown but mainly consisted of
restaurants. It is no doubt quite lively at night.
We have
booked at site at Whistler for our motorhome tomorrow night. The blogs should
get more interesting from here on.
What I haven't mentioned is the weather - brilliant - shorts and tee shirt weather and a delightful bonus is that it doesn't get dark until 8:30. Great time of year here.
