THURSDAY 11TH – AT SEA

Very quiet day today in every sense of the word. The photo above was the view which greeted us from our stateroom balcony when we got up this morning and, while we had a very slight swell earlier in the afternoon, we are now back to balmy conditions as the photo below attempts to show. We are presently in the open sea in Queen Charlotte sound.

We get to our first port Ketchikan at dawn tomorrow and will be going ashore for a bear spotting expedition at a destination we travel to by floatplane. Apparently there are bears around feeding on the spawning salmon but we have heard that before so we don’t have any great expectations.

Unfortunately the perfect weather is not expected to last and there could be some rain ahead.

Life on the ship is great. We are very entertained by all the great deals we keep getting offered for various goods, services and activities. All we are waiting for is a free set of steak knives. We are not proposing to attend the fine art auction but we have been attending the very interesting educational sessions about the destinations ahead of us. The best of them was presentation by Jules Talarico. It’s a shame we won’t have more time at each of the destinations.

We  saw the movie Malificient last night and are proposing to see a stage show tonight. We can apparently expect to see whales and other marine life but nothing significant has appeared yet.

Hopefully tomorrow’s blog will have some interesting content.
