I
spoke a little too soon yesterday when I spoke about the stability of
the ship. We awoke this morning to a significantly increased rolling
motion but fortunately, it caused no ill effect and we had another
delightfully lazy and informative day.
There
were no more chores to do so all we had to do was listen to the
informative lectures.
We
spotted our first iceberg after breakfast this morning when Trish and
I rugged up and ventured out on the deck and we have had non stop
icebergs since then. How many photos of icebergs would you like to
see?
This
afternoon, we reached the shelter of the Shetland Islands and we are
now travelling smoothly in calm water. Apparently we can expect some
rougher water overnight but we arrive at our first shore landing area
in the morning where it will be calm and we will be heading out in
the zodiacs. Apparently the program is that we spend four hours off
the ship, two hours in the zodiacs and two hours on shore. We are
told that we can expect to see numerous penguins but some whales and
seals would be nice too. Sun would also be nice but we haven't seen
any yet, but then again we haven't had any snow either.
We
spent some time on deck this afternoon admiring the icy scenery and
acclimatising to the weather in our cold weather gear. The wind chill
factor is significant.
