MONDAY 4TH – LAST DAY IN BARCELONA

Today was a consolidation day. We have seen everything noteworthy that we wished to see so we acquired another transport pass and went via train, funicular, bus and cable car to visit the Castell de Montjuic, the castle on Mount Juic. We went to the castle while on the hop on hop off bus but didn't feel like exploring it. We had more energy when we went back today. It has played a very important part in every military misadventure that has befallen Barcelona over the centuries.

The castle overlooks the city and the harbour. Part of our motivation was to watch our ship come in. It berthed at 12:00 today.

From the castle, there is an excellent but hazy view of the Segrada Familia. When you consider that the buildings around it are generally six stories high, you get some idea of its size.

I may have mentioned in a previous blog that there is a building here which was formerly used for bullfights. It is the round building on the right side of this photo It has been converted to a shopping centre in a most impressive manner – well worth our visit after lunch.

That's it for the exploration of Barcelona, one of the nicer cities that we have visited. We check out at 11:00 tomorrow and board the ship at 12:00.

The next phase of our fun begins.
