SATURDAY 2ND JUNE – THE DAY BEFORE TRISH'S 65TH BIRTHDAY

Today was Metro day. We very much got our money's worth out of the travel passes we have purchased. We spent the day commuting between underground railway stations with thousands of other locals and tourists.

We started the morning by seeing the sights of the very well developed waterfront including the numerous super yachts, only one of which had a helicopter on the rear upper deck.

This photo shows the contrast between the modern helicopter, the Christopher Columbus statue and the 1992 Olympic Torch Tower.

This is a close up of Christopher Columbus apparently pointing the wrong way.

A rather novel sight we saw today was a Seat display whereby interested people could test drive the vehicles around a small track including some obstacles presumably designed to show the agility of the vehicles.

Once again, we had a very pleasant lunch at one of the on beach cafes, this one a little closer to the city. The beach was significantly more crowded and the sand of much poorer quality than yesterday's beach a little distance to the east. If you look closely at the photograph, you will see that not all the women are wearing their bikini tops.

Unfortunately the day was marred by Bernie's wallet being neatly removed by a pickpocket while on the train. We think we know how it happened but Bernie didn't discover it was missing until he was off the train. He lost some cash and a credit card, now cancelled.

The significance of the title to today's blog is that for tomorrow, we have booked a visit to the Segrada Familia cathedral, one of Barcelona's must see attractions which has been under construction since 1882. If you are 65 or older, a concession is available and tomorrow, Trish becomes eligible for it!
