WEDNESDAY 13TH – CORFU

We were back on the exploration trail today. We were docked in Corfu at a wharf 2.5 kms from the town centre. Holland America very generously put on a shuttle bus to take us to/from town for only 16 euros per person, 64 euros for the four of us! The other options were the local bus for a total of 6 euros 80 or a taxi for 10 euros. We took the taxi.

We could have walked of course but the temperature feels like 35 degrees and, at that stage, we didn't know how much walking we had ahead of us.

The old town is completely car free. You only have to worry about the motor scooters. The town is sandwiched between the “old” fort (built in 1546) and the “new” fort (built in 1577).

The town has a swimming beach not a beach as such, just concrete and steps but the water looked great.

Bernie found himself a hat today. He paid a little more than 5 euros for it but it is a better quality hat. Trish found some great tee shirts for the grandchildren so that they will have something to remember our absence by.

After exploring the town, we hopped on the local bus and headed for Kanoni. We went there because it was the southern limit of where the hop on hop off bus went so there had to be something worth seeing there, and there was.

And of course a great place to have our customary afternoon beer and coffee.

Shortly after we docked this morning, one of the Costa ships docked alongside. It appears to be quite stable in the vertical position.

Tomorrow morning, we will wake up in Dubrovnik, apparently a very scenic town but, given that they are all spectacularly scenic, it's hard to say which is more scenic than the others.

I have been having some internet trouble but hopefully it is now fixed and I will be able to keep the blog up to date and respond to emails more promptly.
